About The Embodied Wellness Studio
Whole-person care for women who are tired of chasing symptoms—and ready to feel and function better.
Nervous-system-aware somatic care, acupuncture, massage therapy, for women — based in Tigard, serving Greater Portland.
For anxiety, burnout, pain, fatigue, sleep issues, headaches, migraines, digestive issues, and hormonal transitions.
Helping women feel clearer, more grounded, and more at ease in their bodies.
Our Story
The Embodied Wellness Studio was founded with a simple but profound belief: women deserve care that meets the whole person, not just isolated symptoms.
Too often, stress, tension, and life’s transitions are treated in fragments—leaving the underlying patterns of the nervous system untouched.
Here, we help women reconnect with their bodies, calm overwhelming stress responses, and restore balance with compassionate, evidence-informed care.
Meet Our Practitioners
Katerina Baratta, LAc, MS
Founder & Lead Practitioner
Katerina has always been driven by one question: how do emotions live in the body — and how does the body shape the way we think and feel?
She started in art therapy, but kept hitting the same wall: the field treated the mind as the whole story. The body was an afterthought.
At the time, “somatics” wasn’t part of the popular conversation — but Katerina trusted her instinct that something was missing and followed it without knowing where it would lead.
It led her to Chinese medicine, one of the few traditions that has always treated emotions as inseparable from physical health. And it led her to two teachers who changed everything — one whose work in craniosacral therapy and the psychology of the body gave her a new way of perceiving what wasn’t visible on the surface, and one who taught her medical qigong at a depth she’d been reaching for but never found.
Applied Somatic Medicine™ emerged from that integration — combining Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, neurology, psychology, medical qigong, bodywork, herbal medicine, and holistic nutrition into a system that produces results she’d always hoped for but couldn’t reach with acupuncture alone.
She works with women who look fine and feel anything but.
Katerina’s Training
Katerina holds a Master of Science in Chinese Medicine from the National University of Natural Medicine, where she later taught doctoral-level courses in both the School of Nutrition and the School of Chinese Medicine.
Her clinical training spans acupuncture, medical qigong, craniosacral therapy, somatic bodywork, Ayurveda, Western herbalism, holistic nutrition, yoga, and nervous-system-focused care — the foundations from which Applied Somatic Medicine™ was developed.
She continues ongoing advanced training and brings more than a decade of clinical experience to her work with women navigating anxiety, burnout, pain, sleep disruption, digestive issues, and hormonal transitions.
Outside the studio, Katerina is usually with her two boys and husband, cooking something nourishing, making art, moving her body, or sneaking in a quiet sauna afternoon when life allows.
Melissa Ketrenos
LMT # 15460
Licensed Massage Therapist
Melissa came to massage therapy the way many of the best practitioners do — through her own experience of needing it.
At 23, she was struck by a vehicle crossing the street. The years that followed involved many forms of treatment. But it was massage that reached something the others didn’t — not just the physical pain, but the way her body felt in itself. It helped her feel whole again. That experience became her vocation.
She has been practicing since 2008, graduating from Oregon School of Massage and going on to build a background that spans oncology, hospice, and therapeutic work — developing a depth of compassion that’s hard to teach. She believes massage works on every level: decreasing pain, restoring mobility, calming the nervous system, reducing inflammation, and bringing the body back into balance.
Each session is tailored to the individual, drawing from myofascial release, deep tissue, trigger point therapy, PIR stretching, Swedish, cupping, Shiatsu, acupressure, reflexology, and manual lymphatic drainage.
Her approach centers on listening — to what clients say, and to what their bodies are telling her.
Outside the studio, Melissa spends her time with family: sailing, hiking, painting, and making music.
Jeanell Innerarity
LMT #22490
Licensed Massage Therapist
Jeanell has been doing hands-on bodywork for over twenty-five years — and her path into massage therapy began with a specific love: abdominal massage. She trained in both the Mayan and Chinese traditions of abdominal work, and has since added Biodynamic touch (an evolution of craniosacral therapy) and thousands of additional hours across somatic, meditation, and bodywork modalities, including 200 hours of foot reflexology. She currently teaches massage at East West College of the Healing Arts.
Clients describe her style as fluid, intuitive, and empathetic — which makes sense when you know the rest of her background. Jeanell is also Board Certified in Holistic Nutrition®, a Nationally Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach, and holds a Master of Arts in Process Oriented Facilitation and Conflict Studies, with over twenty years working in sustainable food systems and therapeutic horticulture. She is currently enrolled in a Holistic Chef program.
She brings all of it into the room.
Outside the studio, she loves creative writing, all kinds of tea, and spending time with her Goldendoodle, Tahini.
How We Care for You
At the Studio, we blend ancient and modern approaches:
-
Applied Somatic Medicine & body-aware healing to release stored tension and address patterns of stress
- Acupuncture to support nervous-system balance, circulation, and physiological regulation
- Massage therapy to relieve pain, restore mobility, and calm the nervous system — therapeutic, skilled work that deepens and extends everything else we do together
-
Herbal and lifestyle support to nourish deeper balance between systems
-
Personalized care that honors where you are now and what your body needs next
Our care doesn’t just mask symptoms — it helps your body and nervous system learn new ways of functioning with greater clarity and ease.
Whether you’re dealing with:
-
Anxiety, chronic stress, burnout, or overthinking
-
Insomnia or unrefreshing sleep
-
Headaches, migraines, jaw/neck/shoulder tension
-
Digestive issues (bloating, discomfort, irregularity, etc.)
-
PMS or painful/irregular cycles
-
Perimenopause/menopause symptoms
-
Persistent pain or inflammation that doesn’t fully resolve
- Fatigue or low energy that doesn’t resolve with rest
You don’t have to know whether “stress is the cause” — we’ll help you follow your symptoms back to the root.
Women often tell us:
“This was so much more than I was expecting.”
Because we’re not just chasing symptoms — we’re working with the patterns underneath them: tension held in the body, a nervous system stuck in high alert, and physiology that’s been bracing for too long.
Depending on what you’re working with and what your body is ready for, your care may include Applied Somatic Medicine™, acupuncture, medical qigong, moxibustion, somatic bodywork, herbal support, massage therapy, and simple at-home practices — always tailored to where you are right now.
Some women come in for massage and leave understanding their nervous system in a new way. Some come for acupuncture and find that the somatic work reaches something they didn’t know needed attention. We meet you where you are and follow what your body is asking for.
