Acupuncture in Tigard, Oregon — Somatic Medicine for Women’s Stress, Pain & Hormonal Health

Our Method

Applied Somatic Medicine™ for Women

At The Embodied Wellness Studio, we practice Applied Somatic Medicine — a whole-body, integrative approach that blends acupuncture, somatic bodywork, medical qigong, herbal medicine, massage, with personalized nutrition and lifestyle support to help women feel and function better — physically, emotionally, and neurologically.

This isn’t your average acupuncture treatment…

While many women come to us for acupuncture, what they experience here goes far deeper. Our work is rooted in Applied Somatic Medicine — a method that supports emotional resilience and physical function by working with the whole system, rather than treating symptoms in isolation.

Combining acupuncture with the transformative power of medical qigong, somatic bodywork, personalized herb formulas, nutrition, massage, and take-home strategies (to keep the momentum going between sessions), our treatment plans support healing at the deepest level.

Women often share that Applied Somatic Medicine helped them release long-held tension, calm internal stress patterns, and finally feel supported in their healing process.

I cannot express my gratitude enough. My immediate symptoms were approached and addressed with so much capability and care. I was then able to move into some deeper work and I feel so fortunate to move through that with such an adept guide and practitioner.

-Andrea G.

Science is confirming what holistic healers and somatic clinicians have long understood

1. Humans are designed to heal.

2. The mind and body are integrated, inseparable aspects of the same whole.

3. When there is imbalance in the mind-body system, it’s very difficult to show up for life the way you want to.

4. Your aren’t meant to do this alone.

How Applied Somatic Medicine Works

We’re here to support you with:

Hands-on treatments

Gentle acupuncture, medical qigong, moxibustion, massage, and somatic bodywork restore balance in your mind-body system.

Nourishment

Personalized nutrition and herbal formulations harmonize your physiology so you feel more at ease.

Education

We empower our patients to make the healthiest choices by explaining not just what to do, but why and how.

I was deeply struggling with my physical, mental and spiritual health. Through the treatments that we’ve done together, many of the barriers to my overall wellness have been removed. I’ve experienced truly life changing improvements in my quality of life through the alleviation of previously debilitating migraines and the removal of many self-limiting spiritual and emotional blockages. I can’t over state how grateful I am for the warmth and expertise. 10/10 do recommend.

Our Inspiration

There is a saying in Chinese medicine:

“Where there is pain, there is no flow. Where there is flow, there is no pain.”

This is our guiding principle at The Embodied Wellness Studio, and it applies to both the mental-emotional and physical realms.

We pride ourselves in combining mind-body-spirit wisdom from ancient healing modalities (specifically, Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, and Western herbal medicine) with modern scientific research in physiology, neurology, psychology, and nutrition, to help our patients remove the barriers to health and heal their mind and body, holistically.

We also believe in the power of community, and are happy to collaborate with psychotherapists, naturopaths, medical doctors, and anyone else on your healthcare team.

This blend of ancient wisdom and modern understanding is the foundation of Applied Somatic Medicine — honoring the body’s innate capacity to heal through presence, connection, and skilled support.

Our Technique

Applied Somatic Medicine means we don’t just treat symptoms — we help the body reveal and release the patterns beneath them.

If you’ve had acupuncture before, your practitioner may have talked with you briefly, stuck some needles in you, and then left the room to treat 3 more patients in the same hour.

We don’t do it that way.

What we’re interested in at The Embodied Wellness Studio is healing on the deepest level.

We want to help you release and process the stored stress and stagnation that is holding you back—to bring your nervous system into a state of equilibrium, and to give your mind-body system the space it needs to heal itself.

Which is why we give our patients the extra support, guidance, and presence that is hard to find in today’s medical system, but—we believe—is the medicine that is needed most.

We use a variety of techniques in our hands-on treatments, including acupuncture, medical qigong, somatic bodywork, cupping, and moxibustion. In addition to hands-on treatments, we empower our patients with herbal medicine, nutrition, meditation, movement and lifestyle coaching.

When needling, we utilize both Japanese (superficial and non-insertive) and Chinese-style (deeper needling) acupuncture techniques depending on the patient and condition we’re treating.

Applied Somatic Medicine adapts to you.

Sensitive or afraid of needles? No problem.

We are adept at using non-insertive and pain-free needling techniques with profound results.

What to Expect from Applied Somatic Medicine

Foundation Phase

Typically 3-12 weekly or biweekly treatments

The first phase of our approach is to create a personalized health and wellness plan that addresses your biggest concerns directly, while also treating the underlying issues that made those imbalances show up in the first place.

We aim to give you a solid foundation for health and wellness, restoring and supporting your mental health, vitality, and resilience so you feel better in both your body and your mind.

Most patients benefit from a series of at least 5 weekly or biweekly acupuncture + somatic bodywork/medical qigong sessions to start, and then we co-create a personalized treatment plan to help you reach your goals.

Learn more about somatic bodywork and medical qigong here.

A personalized Applied Somatic Medicine plan may include any combination of the following, based on your body’s needs and readiness:

  • Acupuncture
  • Medical qigong
  • Somatic bodywork
  • Massage
  • Moxibustion
  • Cupping
  • Herbal medicine
  • Personalized nutrition guidance
  • Yoga
  • Guided meditation
  • Self-inquiry
  • Lifestyle coaching

Treatments are cumulative and work best when they build on each other.

Just as it takes time for a new riverbed to form so the river can be diverted, so too does it take time to establish a new flow that will stick within you.

With regular treatments and coaching, we have the opportunity to create new, healthier patterns that bring your mind-body system into a state of balance—and stay there more easily!

Maintenance Phase

Monthly treatments and/or coaching as needed

Once your system has stabilized and your goals are met, Applied Somatic Medicine supports long-term resilience through thoughtfully paced maintenance care.

At this point, most patients choose to come in for one or two acupuncture-only sessions per month, with or without add-on services as needed.

Maintenance visits help to keep you strong, healthy, and to nip any new issues in the bud before they blossom into something bigger. You’re always welcome to come in more frequently if there’s something new you’d like to work on.
