FAQ
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people are surprised at how comfortable acupuncture needles are, and we often hear patients say “I don’t feel the needles at all!”
Occasionally, you may feel a small pinch upon insertion, but the sensation usually subsides within a few seconds. You may also notice a dull ache during your treatment, which is a sign that stagnant qi is pushing through a blockage.
If anything is ever uncomfortable for you, we can easily remove needles, find less sensitive points, or use other techniques that suit you better.
What can acupuncture treat?
A lot! Acupuncture is just one aspect of Chinese medicine, which identifies and treats the root cause of imbalance.
At The Embodied Wellness Studio, we specialize in women’s health and mind-body wellness.

How can acupuncture, herbal medicine, or somatic bodywork help with stress, anxiety, and women’s health issues?
Each of these therapies helps your body return to balance in a unique way:
-
Acupuncture calms the nervous system, regulates hormones, eases tension, and improves sleep.
-
Herbal medicine works from the inside out, nourishing your body with natural plant-based formulas that support digestion, mood, menstrual health, and energy.
-
Somatic bodywork is a powerful therapeutic technique that helps release stress and trauma stored in the body so you feel more grounded, present, and at ease.
Together, they support your whole self—body, mind, and spirit—so you can handle life with more clarity and resilience.

How many treatments will I need before I see results?
Almost everyone feels better after each treatment, but multiple treatments are usually needed for more enduring, long-term results.
Every body and condition is different, and the exact number of treatments you will need depends on a variety of factors. Typically, acute conditions resolve in 2-3 sessions on average, whereas chronic conditions require 8-12 weekly or biweekly treatments.
What should I expect in my first session?
Your first visit is all about you.
We’ll start with a thoughtful conversation about your health history, lifestyle, and goals. Depending on your needs, your session may include acupuncture, herbal recommendations, and/or somatic bodywork.
You’ll also have plenty of time to ask questions.
Most patients leave their first appointment feeling relaxed, lighter, and hopeful.
How much do treatments cost?
For acupuncture, we are in-network with some insurance companies, and many insurance plans in Oregon also include out-of-network benefits.
There is an additional charge for non-acupuncture services like medical qigong and somatic bodywork, and some services, like microneedling, are not covered by insurance.

Do you take insurance?
Yes, we are in-network with many major insurance networks. Read about our insurance policy here.
What's your cancellation policy?
We request at least 24 hours notice for cancellations.
Appointments that are cancelled less than 24 hours before the appointment result in a full cost-of-service fee.
How early should I arrive?
If this is your first appointment, please plan to arrive 30 minutes early to make sure all of your paperwork is in order.
For follow-up appointments, we request that patients plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early to allow for unforseen delays and make sure the appointment starts on time.
What should I wear?
Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Most treatments are done fully-clothed, and loose clothing allows us to more easily make adjustments without the need to change into a gown.
Can I see the same practitioner for every treatment?
Yes! Just choose the practitioner you would like to see when you book your appointment.
Do you treat infants, children, and teenagers?
We do!
Are gentle and non-insertive acupuncture effective?
Yes, and sometimes even more so than deeper needling. It all depends on the patient and condition we’re treating.
While most of our practitioners use gentler needling techniques on most patients (more superficial and with thinner needles,) we will occasionally use deeper needling when appropriate. You are always welcome to voice your preference.
What if I need something while my practitioner is out of the room?
We give our patients buzzers whenever we leave the room, so you’ll never feel like you’re stuck on the table with needles pinning you down. If you need anything, just press the button and we’ll be with you in a matter of minutes.
Are treatments safe? Can I do this alongside my regular medical care?
Yes. Acupuncture, herbal medicine, and somatic bodywork are all safe when practiced by a licensed professional, and they can be used alongside your conventional medical care.
We only use the highest-quality, tested herbal products, and our treatments are always tailored to your body’s unique needs.
Many of our patients find that combining natural therapies with their doctor’s care gives them the best of both worlds.
